Let me start by pointing out that this author has been through the wringer, and I'm very sorry for that. From what I understand someone released her book without her consent before it was published, and she had to re-write. I cannot imagine how devastating that would be.I LOVED the first book in this series, and was enchanted. I could NOT WAIT for the second book in the series. Now that it's here, I've read it.
I think it's not "dirty" as some other reviewers have accused, but it is sexually charged. To my untrained eye, there was no sexual activity at all, outside of a little "necking", which was termed as such. I don't think it was astonishing, although I wouldn't want a young teen reading this. (it could be argued though that it is an accurate depiction of a teen boy's thoughts)
I bet her first version of this book was amazing. However as much as I am a fan, I was disappointed in this book. I liked Victor being developed further, whether or not I agreed with the way the love triangle was developed. However, I didn't really like the course this book ended up taking. I really really really want to give this book a high rating. I would hate to make this already overwhelmed author feel bad.
However, there were GLARING grammatical errors. I felt that it brought the quality of the book down substantially. The errors distracted me from my reading to the point I had to re-read the sentence a few times to understand what had happened. I also felt a little lost in some areas, as I felt that the author rushed. I'm sure it is due to the re-writing, and I'm sure that affected her end result.
So, although I am very empathetic toward the author and her plight, I cannot give this book a great review. That saddens me, and maybe there will be some editing changes yet? Maybe I got a hold of an early version of the book? So sadly, I can only give this book 3 stars.
Or maybe I thought it is lacking because I don't know what is coming in book #3? *crossing my fingers* (it doesn't explain the editing though)

I like this book it takes a lot for me not to finish one but dear Lord does Delia drive me insane. I feel like this is important for anyone to know but 70% of the book consists of the love squares? Lust and love for the one they want. It is exhausting. Barely anything happens in this book. *the rest of this is very minor undetailed spoilers it wont ruin the book for you but if your picky continue at your own ridk* Delia is so freaking selfish as an empress. She makes decisions emotionally and I feel like I would punch her in the face she was my empress. She says that its not fair for the gods to control her life but its not like she isn't attracted to her betrothed... if she doesn't make the right decision her whole freaking empire could be wiped out but she doesn't care. I cant even believe this is the protagonist of the book. I am getting through this book relatively fast but geese this book is full of hotheaded selfish buttheads.
I have no idea what happened. First of all, I really really loved the first book. I was so excited when I finally got this book and I couldn't wait to enter back into this world.
Well it wasn't what I expected. The cover I didn't like at all. It doesnt do the series justice. Then when it came to actually reading the book, I had trouble keeping interest for the longest time.
There were many may parts that I loved and couldn't put the book down. Then it wouldn't be as amazing. I really tried to finish the book, but I just couldn't. I would love to give the next book a shot and hopefully it'll turn out better.
When I read Betrayal, I was of two minds about it. I felt like it had a really interesting mythology, but the story went off in some very confusing directions. I was hoping that with a lot of the bewildering time travel stuff out of the way, the second book would be much better in terms of story. In this I was disappointed.
It's not that Sacrifice was totally bad. There were some very good elements. The love triangle/quadrilateral was particularly interesting. Cordelia had to choose between the boy she fell in love with on her own and the boy the gods have chosen to be her mate. Of course, I was put in the uncomfortable position of being on the side of the rapist/murderer (which means less when you're talking about shape-changing immortals but is nonetheless disturbing. Seriously, YA novels, why do you try to make horrible people appealing? I'm a 31-year-old who can distinguish fiction from reality, but the intended audience of these books is made up of impressionable 13-year-old girls.)
Anyway, I liked the characters, and I liked the mythology. (I always find it interesting when the Greek gods are characters to see which ones are the "good guys" and which are the "bad guys," especially when these differ from my own conceptions.) But I once again had a hard time following the plot, particularly as it relates to time travel. Cordelia's main goal in the book is to bring her parents back to life, despite the insistence from her subjects that she should be focusing on other things. I don't want to try to explain the process of how she goes about finding them and getting to them, as it would involve spoilers, but suffice it to say that I got to the end of the book and was not entirely sure what had happened.
All in all, I felt like I enjoyed the story, but I really wish it had been better written. But it's about as good as the first one, so if you liked Betrayal, Sacrifice is definitely worth a read. Will I tune in for a third installment? I have not yet decided. For now I will keep following Mayandree Michel's blog and decide what I want closer to the release date.
